Insurance Plan in College
The very reason why colleges are offering insurance plan is because
they know that college students reaching the age of 20 are no longer
covered by the insurance of their parents. Thus, to give opportunity
to these students to be covered by health insurance while studying,
and at the same time doing business, colleges have begun these insurance
plans for college students.
Indeed, this undertaking has proven worthwhile and helpful to
students who were hospitalized and needed medical attention in the
course of their studies.
A college health insurance plan is something that college students
have to pay for, just like an ordinary tuition. Once a college student
has a college health insurance, all his medical checkup and laboratory
exams inside the college premises are covered by his or her insurance
plan. Nearly all colleges and universities with medical facilities
offer this as a complementary business package to their college
students.
There are actually many people who believe this insurance business
of universities and colleges of offering health insurance to college
students is purely a money making business venture of schools to
fatten more their school’s bottom lines. Others would see
this as a win win situation both for the school and the college
student’s medical care.
If a student is already suffering from a certain condition like
a heart problem, health insurance coverage can still be extended
to the student with a particular clause relative to his or her existing
ailment. Usually, students with physical conditions like this, are
given preferential treatment especially when it comes to physical
exercises or education subjects that may require physical exertion.
It is more beneficial to students with existing physical illnesses
to have this college insurance coverage during their college studies
since awareness to their physical limitations will always be considered.
by the school.
Insurance coverage plans of colleges and universities differ from
one school to another. It is important that the student and the
parents themselves, try to examine the fine print of the insurance
coverage so that both would know if until where or when will be
the coverage. Some universities would include summer breaks as still
part of a student’s insurance coverage, while some universities
do not include summer breaks.
Considering that there is no uniformity of coverage and even of
its pricing, it is then important that the student and the parents
should be aware of the real extent of the insurance. Take a short
time out and read the policy. It will be both to your advantage.
It would be nice if someone will make some lobbying efforts in
congress and the senate with regards to have a national uniformity
for college insurance health plans. As of now every colleges and
universities seemed to have their own agenda as to how their college
student population will have to be covered by their college insurance
health plans. In view of the fact that insurance is not the main
business of these universities and colleges, the government should
see to it that the college student population of schools offering
college insurance plans can have a better deal through the implementation
of a uniform college student insurance plan nationwide.
